About Empowering HeArts – February 23, 2024
Empowering HeArts is an annual gala celebrating single parents and the art community. Empowering HeArts presents the works of local artists who create unique and enticing art forms inspired by the real-life stories of chosen women (or men) who exemplify the year’s theme of THRIVE.
The Empowering HeArts Gala is also a signature fundraising event for Single Mothers Outreach. Proceeds from sponsorships, ticket sales, and product sales are used to support programs that help single parents effectively care for their families.
Expectations of the Artists
Each artist is asked to create a work that, unmistakably, portrays their Honoree. Inventive interpretation of the theme, THRIVE, as it applies to each Honoree is strongly encouraged, as are the imagination and personal artistic style of the artist. In keeping with the supportive spirit of SMO and to the greatest degree possible within the artists’ own disciplines, the artists are asked to assure that the Honorees are identifiable to the people who know them when viewing the finished arts.
It is critical that the artist’s work closely with their Honorees. Each Honoree will be gifted the art made by the artist they are matched with and must be comfortable with how they are portrayed.

Guidelines
Artists must be available to participate in three events. All events are located in the Santa Clarita Valley.
September 13, 2023: Attend the Empowering HeArts Kickoff. The event is a media event to introduce the honorees and artists to the SCV Community Press. It is a chance to meet the sponsors, artists, SMO Board of Directors, and the Empowering HeArts Steering Committee. Headshots will be taken for display on the SMO website, social media and inclusion in the event program.
February 22, 2024: Attend a rehearsal at the determined location
February 23, 2024: Attend Empowering HeArts at the Sand Canyon Country Club venue
Timeline and Locations
- Aug 21, 2023 Applications accepted through August 21, 2024
- Aug 23, 2023 Artists will be notified by email if they have been chosen as a participating artist
- Sep 13, 2023 Attend the Empowering HeArts Kickoff to meet your Honoree and take photographs. Honu Coffee Shop (bottom floor of Real Life Church), 23841 Newhall Ranch Rd, Valencia, 91355 Please plan to meet with your Honoree in September. Honorees can meet with their artist at the SMO office located in Valencia, at a coffee shop, or via Zoom
- Sept, 2023 Plan to meet with your Honoree
- Sept, 2023 Check-in with Brooke Edwards on your progress in September and whenever you have a question or need assistance.
- Oct 1, 2023 Submit 250-word bio to Roxana Topete for marketing outlets and event brochure
- Feb 22, 2024 Attend Empowering HeArts rehearsal- location TBD
- Feb 23, 2024 Attend and enjoy the event

*Artists will be given a complimentary ticket to the event. The event includes dinner, a silent auction, entertainment, and the ceremony itself. All other attendees/guests must purchase a ticket through the Empowering HeArts website.
